[nospaces] | the monster in your head
[break]
wont surface again be still my child, wash away the sin |
[attr="class","robot3"] [attr="class","robot"]
[break][break]
Guns blazed. Bombs burst. Someone screamed. Where was his leg? It ached... he could feel it, he could wiggle his toes... where was his leg? The world flashed red, white, then black. Black, black, black...
[break][break]
Khy woke with a start, his breaths hitching in his chest.
[break][break]
He could still feel it. His toes itched. But when he reached down to scratch them, his hand swept empty air, and his thigh burned.
[break][break]
He turned on his bedside lamp. Slid on his prosthetic. Opened a bottle of pills, and swallowed it straight.
[break][break]
He checked his phone. 7:00 AM. No new messages. No e-mails, no texts, no Squypes. Typical. He tried to play a game. A stupid fish-collecting game. It didn't take his mind off the pain. It only seemed to get worse. Aching, burning, gnawing at his bones and muscles. 8:00 AM. He checked the calendar. His therapist was still out of town.
[break][break]
This is a bad one. He thought, wiping at the sweat on his brow. The pain hadn't been this bad in a long time. He didn't want to go to the hospital over it. Surely there was a walk-in nearby... but he didn't fancy the idea of walking anywhere, either.
[break][break]
He checked his phone for nearby clinics. He found one a block away. It was in the Daggertooth District, but he could manage. All he cared about was not walking far.
[break][break]
He got dressed (and forgot a few buttons on his shirt), picked up his walking stick, wallet, and keys, and clunked out the doors.
[break][break]
A frigid winter air blasted him as he left. Snow gathered on his shoulders. His joints ached all the more as he walked, one step at a time, towards the clinic. He hoped they wouldn't be too full.
[break][break]
It felt like hours before he finally arrived, but it was really just thirty minutes. He entered through the front doors, looking out of place and in a considerable amount of pain.

[attr="class","ptext"] [attr="class","ptext1"]you are not measured [attr="class","ptext2"]by how people react to you ▼ A gentle chime rang through the building, notifying Sasha and his mother that someone had just opened and walked through the front door. He was in the middle of braiding his hair, but quickly stood and walked from the back where they lived and into the office, continuing to braid as he walked. There was an unfamiliar face at the front of the office, pain sprawled across their face. A quick glance told him this man was an amputee with a prosthetic, but still had difficultly walking, and they'd likely come here in a hurry if the state of his shirt was any indication. Off the top of his head, he identified pains at the amputation site as being the most likely reason for his visit, evidenced further by how he currently favored limb. The second most likely possibility was that this man was horrifically ill and probably needed more than his small clinic could provide. The man was clearly incredibly underweight, the cause of which could be any number of things. The clinic didn't have the advanced diagnosing technology of a hospital or fancy doctor's office. They barely had anything past a rather old x-ray machine. If he came for the second reason, he would do all he could to identify the problem, but there was a decent-sized chance he'd have to send him to a hospital. If the inkling came for the first reason, however, Sasha still wasn't going to let him leave without running a few tests and maybe urging him to go to a hospital or see a doctor with a better funded office.
"How can I help you, sir?" His snapped the ponytail around the base of the braid, pushing the hair back behind his shoulder. It was unusual to see an inkling with missing limbs. He was curious, but it wasn't his business and, considering the area, asking questions could be extremely dangerous. On more than one occasion he'd done his work with weapons pressed to his head or throat. He'd rather not give this inkling a reason to pull out a weapon. [break][break]
Khyran wasn't expecting such a small and humble clinic. He was expecting a waiting room with a reception desk and a handful of other patients. He felt suddenly like he had stumbled into someone's house- far more intimate than he had expected. Nervous, he said: "I... I'm sorry for barging in here so early. I... I s-should have called ahead of time..." [break][break] A spike of pain ran through his leg and his grip tightened on his walking stick. He wanted nothing more than to be given a shot of morphine and be sent back home, but he highly doubted it would be that simple (or good for him.) Since he was here, he might as well explain the situation. [break][break] "I... I get phantom pains... s-sometimes the... they get bad... I go to my physical therapist, but... h-he's out of town..." He grimaced a bit. "He... h-he usually decides if... I need something stronger or not..." [break][break] And this man's probably thinking about how awful I look. I really don't need another lecture about my eating habits... for what little good it would do. He just wanted a quick fix. He'd admit it. That was the only reason why he was here. [break][break]

[attr="class","ptext"] [attr="class","ptext1"]you are not measured [attr="class","ptext2"]by how people react to you ▼ Sasha listened carefully to Khyran speak. He stuttered and paused frequently. Was it a result of the pain he was in or was its source his anxiety? He watched as he grimaced, as his grip on his cane tightened. He guessed pain. It looked like the man's bad days were really bad days.
"Oh, no, we've been open since dawn and we accept walk-ins." Sasha assured him, "Go ahead and take a seat on the exam tables, sir. I'll be with you in just a moment." He stepped up to the nearby sink and washed and dried his hands before putting on a fresh pair of gloves.
"Can you please remove your prosthetic so I can take a look at the area?" He asked as he walked over and took a seat, "And can you tell me what medications you're taking along with anything else your physical therapist has you do for the pain?" | | ▲ I don't remember how to write Sasha (sob) |

[attr="class","robot3"] [attr="class","robot"] [break][break] Khyran followed the doctor’s instructions without another word. He did feel bad about this, but… so long as they were open and expecting patients, he figured he’d follow through with this. He wandered to the nearest exam table and settled himself atop it with difficulty, the paper crinkling under his meager weight. [break][break] “Uh- s-sure…” He said as he reached down to unlatch his prosthetic from his leg and pull off the protective padding. He hadn’t actually gotten a good look at it in a while, himself. It was sore and swollen and blistered, far worse than usual. No wonder it was hurting so bad. [break][break] “I guess it’s about time I got a new leg… I gotta replace them every so often…” He managed in a shaky voice. “...M-mostly here for some … something for the pain. I… I was prescribed something light but I’m not really … supposed to take something heavier without seeing a doctor about it… wasn’t sure if you could do that…” He reached up to smooth back his tentacles. He hadn’t cared much for his appearance lately, but he was certain he looked as disheveled as ever. [break][break] Something occurred to him then, and he perked up a little. “O-oh, uh… what’s… what’s your name again? I think I forgot…”
