Get Ink'd takes place in the world of Splatoon; whether or not you're familiar with its concepts, it can be summarized pretty easily! Some several thousand years after the extinction of humanity, sea levels have risen drastically. Entirely new species have spawned from the confines of the ocean, evolving over the course of countless decades to walk on land. A single example of these creatures is the Inkling.
Evolving from flying squids, Inklings are a species of shapeshifters capable of traversing land either on foot or in the form of a squid capable of swimming through their own ink. They exist harmoniously alongside many other species and have built a civilization all their own - the bustling and innovative city of Inkopolis, home to sea creatures of all shapes and sizes.
But not everyone is so lucky. A threat prevalent to this day exists far from the safety of Inkopolis, a 'rival' species - the Octolings. Octolings, similar to Inklings, are capable of taking on both a humanoid form and an octopus form, traveling at much higher speeds through paths of their own ink. Forced to retreat underground after the loss of a war with the Inklings, they found a safe haven beneath the Earth's surface, the now dubbed Octo Valley.
Their once peaceful existence alongside the Inklings diminished in recent years due to rising sea levels, and the fierce battle they staged to seize Inkopolis lead to their sound and lasting defeat. Despite repeated attempts to steal Inkopolis' power source - the Great Zapfish - the Octarians have had little success in sustaining their own hidden civilization or claiming Inkopolis.
Now, Splatoon focuses mainly on the sport of Turf War - you can expect to see plenty of that here, too, but horizons are a bit broader with Ink'd! Expanding on the concept of Inkling and Octoling rivalry introduced to us in the Story Mode of Splatoon, Ink'd focuses not only on Turf War, but the conflict brewing between the two species. Here at Ink'd, you're invited to choose the path that appeals to you the most. Will you find your place in a Turf War team of your own and work to climb the ranks, or will you play the part of an Octarian soldier struggling to reclaim their rightful place above ground? Regardless of your choice, the options are boundless. Choose a side and grab your weapon - it's time to Get Ink'd!
