The lobby, always thriving with inklings, was no different on this day. Maybe it could be said that fewer were here than normal, but it was very hard to tell. All around, inklings were quickly changing their gear to fit the stages. In Ranked Battle, where it was Splat Zones at Urchin Underpass, eight inklings were greeting each other and preparing for battle: Pastel Blue team:- Domino Inferna
- Kayla
- Jackson
- Lyra Evestar
Pastel Green Team:- Floco Kavalson
- Kate Kickson
- Vet
- Carmilla
(Ooc: Domino Inferna Jackson vet Carmilla Kate Floco Lyra There is no posting order, so feel free to post whenever you like. However, I will be posting when the match starts, so try and keep to the timeline. Other than that, enjoy Underpass Ink!)

Jackson had himself seated at a bench by the edge of the lobby, quietly strapping up his Blue Moto Boots to prepare for battle, New Squiffer resting on the bench to his right. He'd not had a rank change in forever, and he doubted this battle would do that for him, but he couldn't pass up Splat Zones, could he? You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at him, nor talking to him for that matter, but he was fairly excited. Though he did have a small smile on him. He stopped and looked around at his teammates, he recognized Kayla, but nobody else. One of them had a Krak-On Roller and the other an E-Litre Scope. Seems our team is pretty balanced he thought.
Either way, he only looked up for a moment. His head soon went back down and he continued strapping his boots up.

To be fair, Splat Zones wasn't exactly her jam. Usually, if she was going to go play in the big leagues, she'd do it with one of her roommates -- that squid practically lived breathed turf war, and had the talent to back it up. (Even if it meant having to put up with her barrages of hissing curses when she was unhappy.) But Kazoo wasn't around today, since everyone else was out of the house doing their own thing, and her fiancee was busy. So there wasn't too much to do, and she was in the area... so, Carmilla figured, she'd give it a shot. It had been a long time since she had tried this out.
She came prepared, of course. Aviator shades, sleek white kicks, and a mostly-white dress with a flash of maroon: if she was going to play, she had to look as fresh as she could. It gave her a bit more confidence, a bit more oomph, and there was something about these shoes that made her able to swim a lot faster than normal. (There was something mysterious about that, and she hoped she could somehow figure out more!)
Starting into the lobby with her custom-painted 52. Gal Deco in hand and shades on her forehead, Carmilla looked around with a smile to take in the rest of her team. . . it lasted before she realized that she was probably the only octoling here.
Oh boy.

To say that Lyra was nervous was an understatement. This was her first ranked battle in a while when her best friends weren't around to watch her back. After all, being an E-Liter had it's ups and downs. To make things worse, it was Splat Zones at Urchin Underpass. Boy, did she hate Urchin Underpass. There were only four spots where she could reach the middle, and the enemy could easily reach them. Oh well, at least it isn't Tower Control she thought as she strided into the group that would be joining her in that match. She then let out a sigh of relief as she saw Kayla in the midst of them, firmly pressing her cap onto her head.
"Kayla!" she cried as loud as she could.
I'll be OK now, Lyra decided as she ran through the small crowd to reach her friend.
(Ooc: Let's get this party started)

Post by vet on Feb 5, 2016 21:31:56 GMT
Vet was increasingly excited for their first legit ranked match that wasn't with a bunch of strangers, but one where they could get a good look at their teammates and the enemies and actually help plan ahead this time. They were already looking anxiously around the lobby, thinking over their teammates' weapons, map, and game mode. Two Aerospray RGs?! Not good... The other team had an E-Liter and Roller for crying out loud! It was going to be hard forming a game plan with so many short-ranged weapons. But... the Aerosprays did have impressive ink coverage, and seeing as the mode was thankfully Splat Zones, this could become a simple game of keep away. Vet just hoped the Aerosprays knew how to hold their own
"Let's see, I could also help the .56 Deco with splats by disrupting enemy inklings, and bubbling if they get too close for comfort. Oh Boy - there's gonna be a lot of inkstrikes from us, huh? That'll be fun... I'll need to keep on eye on the E-liter - don't let her get too close to any of the balconies on the side... Hmm..." Mumbling game plans to themself, they looked around once more, and noticed that one of their teammates, the .56 Gal Deco, was heading towards them. They straightened up, and smiled to her, trying to hide the fact that they had just been talking to themself.
"Ah - you must be Carmilla, right?" Vet waved cheerfully. "I'm Vet, the team's Tri-Slosher user." They gave her a quick look-over, and stopped at her weapon. "Whoa - I really like the designs on your Gal!" Vet wasn't one for noticing anything other then cool looking weapons.

It was a little difficult to not be on-edge, so Carmilla tensed up a little when the teal-blue inkling approached her; her tentacles flared out a little, and the tiny blue baubles on their tips glowed faintly. But.. they didn't seem that bad, at least.
"Ah, you're the tri-slosher.. it's nice to meet you, Vet," she answered, a small smile on her face. "An.. original, right? With the bubbler? One of my roommates uses a slosher deco, so the weapon genre's not too unfamiliar to me! The ink output of sloshers in general is quite amazing."
Well, she was really thankful for the team support, at least. Those disruptors could make for really easy targets on the other side for her to take down, that was for sure.
"Oh, you think..?"
She held the weapon up to the light, examining it a bit as it sparkled. It had been painted so that the main body was black, with the occasional dark blue, and the glittering sequins were an electric blue that matched her tentacle-baubles' own color. As much as she appreciated the original colors, Carmilla had wanted to do something special for her favorite weapon...
"Thank you! I did it myself. I actually run a small business based off of painting gear, and this was a personal piece for myself, so.. it's really nice to know you like it."
... Was there seriously a sniper on the other team? She was already quietly dreading that notion, especially if there wasn't one on their own group to address the issue. It was just a matter of being extra careful, she supposed..
[[ ooc: ahhh you'll have to forgive my unorganized post format; I don't have a secondary avatar for Carmilla yet, and I don't want to get a post format for her without one. I'M WORKING ON IT I SWEAR ]]

"Mmm," they hummed their confirmation, "the Bubbler special makes me feel... a little bit more secure." Vet let out a little embarrassed giggle. Truthfully, sometimes they wouldn't even be quick enough to activate their Bubbler before getting splatted, which, in their opinion, was much more annoying then activating it too early. But it was better then nothing, and a group bubble could really change the tides of the battle.
Admiring Carmilla's weapon as she held it higher, the better lighting giving Vet a new perspective on the paint job, they couldn't help but find it beautiful. "I know that Gal users get a pretty bad rep, but, man, I wouldn't mind getting splatted by such a pretty weapon like that!" The dark blue accenting the lighter blue sequins really gave the weapon design a lot of depth. "You know, after this match is over, you might just have yourself a new costumer!" Vet had no clue what they would even have painted onto their Tri-Slosher, but they could work that out later. They just wanted a sick-looking weapon.
"But - we're not here for commissions - we gotta get down to the bare bones of things." Vet wanted to at least get a of skeleton of an idea for their game plan down before the match started, and they were just getting past introductions. "I did some homework and I have some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we all got short-ish ranged weapons - mostly shooters - while the other team has a long ranged charger and a short ranged charger. The good news is the mode is splat zones, and we can cover the zone much faster then an E-liter could. With some of that in mind, do you have any plans you want to implement?"
...Jeez, shut up Vet, you're gonna talk your poor teammate's ears off and you didn't even mention about the other two enemy players, Vet thought numbly to themself, still not used to actually talking strategy with others. Carmilla oh PPFF, dont worry about ur posts at all, as long as i can understand and work off of it im fine!! i need to get a better post template tbh, i wanna cute little thing with an icon too : D

Post by Floco on Feb 8, 2016 9:11:04 GMT
Floco was more than ready. He was prepared to take on Kayla and Lyra, both of whom he had battled before, and he was prepared to win this battle. However, as he compared their team's weapons to his team's weapons, he groaned. Their variety was much better than his team's, and there was another Aerospray RG on the same team. Let's hope this girl knows what she's doing. He strided over to his three teammates and began to think of tactics."In case you think we're gonna lose just because we've got two Aerosprays, may I say that this is my main weapon, and the chances of losing would be much higher if I was using any other."
"Speaking of which," he turned to the other Aerospray RG, "Is that your main weapon?"He sincerely hoped so, for an Aerospray who didn't know what they were doing was a huge disadvantage.

Carmilla beamed at the praise, the tiny blue baubles on her tentacles lighting up faintly. "You're too kind, dear! I'd be very happy to talk business after the match if you had anything in mind! But, for now.."
She eyed the paper map of the underpass that she had been distributed upon registration. The territory of interest was that long area in the center, easily accessed from quite a few angles and maybe ten seconds from the spawnpoint if you swam fast enough..
"Hold on, the other team has two chargers?" she asked, a small frown pulling at her lips. "And we have.. a .56 Gal, a Tri-Slosher original, and two Aerosprays. Oh my goodness." A sound like soft, resigned laughter left the vampire squid as she closed her eyes.
"No less in a battlefield where there's ready access from many vantage points..
Well, at least we have firepower on our side.. and consider the fact that chargers can't hit people directly in the splat zone from their half of the field."
For emphasis, Carmilla indicated the spots in question, trailing a claw-tipped finger to one of the back alleyways that was easily accessed.
"Their chargers will probably stay on the glass-tiled overhangs if they're not on the slopes overhanging the splat zone, so we need to watch that area too. If anything else, chargers are very easy to displace with Inkstrikes, which we've three of."
Honestly, she wasn't as big on strategy compared to a few people she knew, so this was just basic observations, but.. She glanced over at the blue inkling that had just approached, cringing a little at his aggressive attitude, but not letting it show on her face.
"It's fine, I'm sure you'll do a great job with it," Carmilla reassured, trying to smile.
"I don't cover as much ground as an Aerospray or Tri-Slosher can, but I've always been more of a fighter than an inker. And seekers will be useful today, don't you think?"

“ We can see it in your bones “ Vet was moments away from commenting on Floco's sudden 'outburst', but kept their mouth shut while Carmilla spoke. They turned back to Carmilla and her map, examining all the spots she had pointed out to them.
"I think we can manage, if we're smart about it..." Vet was fairly sure that Floco was the highest ranked player here, and that would definitely show during the battle. "You're right about the ink coverage, but it's not smart to have one person on splats, as they can get overwhelmed easily. The zone isn't very big in Urchin too, so I'd say we just need at least one member focused solely on keeping it ink'd in our color, and the rest sneaking around those chargers." Vet certainly wasn't very good at fighting long ranged weapons, but if it was needed, they would try their best. "Speaking of sneaking, that reminds me of another weapon we'll have to be on the lookout for - the Krak-On Roller." Vet only had vague knowledge on how the enemy Krak-On Roller played, but it was smart to share anything that could possibly benefit the team. "I hear she's a pretty aggressive player, and hiding in ink, waiting for the perfect moment to take some unsuspecting squid by surprise is a Roller user's specialty. Not to mention those Squid Beakons... We better be mindful of where we step."
