Inkoplis, home to the Inklings. These relaxed, playful squids were always bustling with busy joy as Radie walked between the crowds of Arowana Mall, shouldering the bag which held his Jet Squelcher. It had been another day out in the field, turfing until you're just flat out tired! Radie had no official turf team yet, constantly jumping from one to the next, but he always walked his way to the busy portions of the Mall to see if there was a team he could apply for.
His bobble hat was firmly placed on his head, save for a few of his pale tentacles poking out. People would only assume his ink color was either milky white, or perhaps turquoise, with a few blue splotches not cleaned up from battle; no one was to suspect the young 'Inkling' was actually a poisonous Octoling in disguise. Even with the obvious 'poison' part in his subspecies title, Radie wasn't here to fight or terrorize. He had run away from Octo Valley, from the army, to live a simple, joyous life of turfing and eating crab cakes with his fellow Inklings.
Only, it was sometimes hard, especially when your 'apartment' was actually a shabby old dumpster in Daggertooth District. Jobs were harder to get when you aren't raised from birth in Inkpolis, it seems. Radie didn't mind much, however, because the simple joys in just being free of painful responsibility was enough to make him grin sharp teeth ear to ear (or lack thereof, considering Octoling ears are actually holes).
His skin was also burning, being a tannish red in some areas as apposed to their usual pale color. Building a resistance against Inkling ink was tedious, painful, and sometimes hard to hide. His skin stung and built up clotting, having to be bathed in his own Octo ink constantly to shun the pain. But Radie wanted to turf-he loved to turf! These pains weren't going to stop him, no!
So he kept on walking, smelling the glorious food and scratching ever so often at his flared up skin. God, the food smelled so damn good. If only Radie had enough gold coins on him to actually buy it...

{♦} After a few rounds of Turf War, Cato had finally saved enough cash to grab a book he'd been wishing for at the Mall's bookstore. Fortunately for him, he had found a coupon in his bag for said store, and had a decent amount of cash left to use for lunch. Some iced tea and a sandwich sounded nice...
As he stuffed the book into his bag, he walked to the food court, sneakers tapping on the tiles. In the area was a familiarly suited Inkling looking over it. He saw the other earlier in a Turf War battle, wielding a Jet Squelcher. Cato had respect for the fellow, as he did with anyone who used "uncommon" weapons-- Squelchers were quite hard to find, but most of them were quite good.
He slowly stepped up to the other, making sure to not startle them. "Uh...hey! Wat'cha doing...?" Cato asked, putting his arms into his pockets. While he wasn't good at starting conversation, he did try...

One of Catherine's favorite hobbies was people watching. She would often find a nice cafe or restaurant with outdoor seating to have a meal and just observe. Her mother always gave her some money for lunch, though Catherine would always insist that she would make enough money to feed herself from a few matches of Turf War. So she had some extra change in her pockets, which she was contemplating using to buy that new book on human history she found in the bookstore a few blocks down.
But at the present, she brought herself back to her lunch and her surroundings. Today she had ordered from a restaurant that specialized in tempura and takoyaki. She usually was content to have a regular deli sandwich and some soup, but the scents wafting from this particular place had tempted her inside. She had never had takoyaki before, most due to the squeamish feeling she got when she remembered that Octolings were octopi and people like her. Of course, she knew the octopus and squid used in modern recipes were all unintelligent, unevolved species similar to the ones that inhabited earth long before inklings ever evolved, there was always some social discomfort about eating them. But she decided she would be brave today and try them.....though....now....she was having second thoughts. It smelled delicious, but the thought of eating octopus was making her nervous again. So to take her mind off the thought for a while, she resumed her people watching.
Unfortunately, the lunch rush was nearing its end and much of the crowd had dispersed. Only two young inklings stood in Catherine's immediate view, a purple inkling conversing with a paler inkling with a large bag slung over his back. She contented herself to watch these two from afar. As she watched, it certainly seemed as though these two were not close friends. Acquaintances, maybe, but nothing more, judging from the way the purple inkling seemed tense and was fidgeting with his hands. The paler inkling seemed a little...different. Catherine couldn't quite tell from this distance, but something did not seem quite right with that one. Perhaps it was the reddish marks he had on his skin. Was he sunburnt? He is quite pale, perhaps he's albino? Catherine was lost in her thoughts and observations, not realizing she was quite obviously staring at them and...not really blinking...

An Inkling had approached Radie, catching the Octoling off guard. Despite being one usually up to social talks, quite sudden, new things can spring surprise.
"Oh! Hey, fancy seeing you here--you were one of the Inklings I turfed with, correct?" He knew the face looked familiar. They could have just walked out of the plaza's Lobby like he did a moment ago, to come get food or simply shop. It wasn't too out of the ordinary; Radie being very wary of possible secret agents trying to nag his Octopi ass back to the ruins of Octo-Valley.
Hopefully, this Inkling wasn't one of them.
"You did really good on the field! I'd love to turf with you more. What's your name?"
Names. Inklings had names, as apposed to numbers which most Octarian troops unfortunately went by. Radie chose Radioactrivital purely because it was the name of a super skilled Octoling soldier of the old History texts; hopefully no one in Inkoplis would have done enough research to know that. It also sounded cool, which was a plus.
While conversing with this newfound social friend, Radie couldn't help but feel as if eyes were on his back. Maybe someone else was watching him? Hopefully to the great Octavio not an agent... He scratched his ink burns uncomfortably.

{♦} He quickly nodded. “Yup! Those were some pretty fun matches.” Bringing up a hand, he tugged slightly at the bandana around his neck. “....I didn’t scare you, right? You look a bit spooked.” Cato felt his palms get sweaty, at the thought of doing that, well, again. Because of his size, he often could not help creeping up on others. Nobody expects a pint-sized Inkling to come tapping on their shoulder, even himself. Especially himself. “But--- hey! You did really well, also! I’ve never seen a Squelcher cover so well before. I’ve always wanted to use one, but i’m not very good at it. That’s why I prefer the Neo Splash,” he said, cheerfully. After a moment of silence, he realized what the other asked of him. “And, uh, my name is Cato! What’s yours?” He responded, a bit nervous. God, he really need to work on answering questions quicker, instead of blabbering about….everything else. He, too, couldn’t help but feel like someone was watch his conversation. It was true that the mall was crowded, and crowds always made him feel like that. Would the other appreciate it if he turned around to look, though? Refusing to look at somebody you just met sounded nothing but rude.

Catherine was still lost in her thoughts, watching these two interact. They were certainly an interesting pair. The paler one was scratching uncomfortably at the red marks on his skin 'Those couldn't be comfortable.' and the smaller purple inkling seemed to be talking nervously 'If the way he wipes his hands on his pants is anything to go by.' Catherine amused herself by wondering what they could be talking about. Perhaps they were discussing a game that had gone poorly, or maybe that purple one is afraid of the pale one, maybe the purple one owes the pale one money....? Her eyes glazed over as her thoughts wandered elsewhere, though her eyes remained fixated on the spot the two were standing.

Somewhere in a corner of the food court, a disgruntled-looking young lady of short, stout stature was grumbling as she carried a bag of food back to one of the tables. While they were nice, her clothes looked grubby and a bit damaged, like she had been in a LOT of turf wars today.
"Dammit... They're ALWAYS out of scallop fries by the time I get here..."
Chihiro had pretty much been fighting in turf wars since the moment she finished breakfast that morning. Judd had finally made her leave, telling her not to come back until she ate something. Apparently her legs had been getting wobbly and he had noticed.
As she sat down (having to jump to get into her chair, given her small stature), placing the bag down and removing it's contents, she became aware of something going on not too far away.
"... Hn... looks like that guy forgot his sunscreen today." she mumbled to herself thought a mouthful of salmon burger, not realizing the real reason behind those red patches.
Taking a sip of her soda, she shrugged. "Eh. None of my business."

The way this Inkling, smaller than he was, talked was so full of expressive joy. He wasn't scary at all! Rather friendly, actually. This was something Radie could appreciate out of the Inklings as a whole. They never seemed scary, no matter how some boasted to be. Inklings were just naturally chill, relaxed; friendly and social creatures who do want everyone to be their friend, even their enemies.
Maybe that's why Radie hoped he could fit in with them; forget his past as an Octoling soldier and feel right at home with this style of smoothness. The small Inkling looked nervous, sweaty even. Radie allowed a smile to curl on his mouth, and he opened it to laugh. It wasn't a booming, loud laugh, or a tiny, almost invisible giggle--it was just a laugh. A heartwarming, friendly laugh.
"You? Scary? Nah. You're just excited--I like that about you. Cato, you say? That's a rather nice name. Something not too hard to forget. Neo Slasher is also a good choice of weapon! I like to hang back and observe, its why I chose this Squelcher here," Radie shouldered his Jet Squelcher, as if proud of it, "and you're surprised how well it can cover turf if put in good hands. "My name is Radie. I'm, not exactly from around here, so I'm still trying to find my way about but..." he found himself trailing off. Now he was REALLY feeling like he was being watched. His bright green eyes searched around, scanning the crowd until he noticed the suspicious little Inkling staring DIRECTLY at the duo.
Radie stared right back, making eye contact.

Her meal may have gone as planned; uninterrupted, with her finishing up and going right back to Turf War-
"GHHHHK!"
... If not for the fact that a fish bone in her burger got caught in her throat, causing her to choke loudly. It was actually somewhat comical to watch, as she furiously chugged her drink followed by frantically pounding her chest with a fat little fist in an effort to dislodge the offending bone.

Catherine was entirely lost in her own world by this point. She didn't even notice when Radie noticed her staring and stared right back. She remained frozen, still staring ahead of her, her head resting in her hand, as though her mind had gotten up and left her body frozen at the moment it left. What did snap her out of her reverie, though, was the very loud sounds of the inkling a few tables away choking. It was as if she had awoken from sleeping, as she flinched a bit, blinked her eyes a few times in confusion, and noticed Radie staring at her. She flushed with embarrassment as she realized how she had been staring and quickly averted her eyes. She then noticed the inkling still having trouble a few tables away. Catherine wished to help, but she didn't know how to help someone who was choking. She remained fixated to her seat in panic, for she didn't know what to do.

Struggling to her knees in her chair, Chi began ramming herself into the edge of the table repeatedly, striking the spot where her chest met her stomach over and over.
"GYAK!"
The self-performed Heimlich seemed to work, since she coughed violently for a while, before slumping on the table, gasping for breath. She was fine, just kind of dizzy. Quite a few of the food vendors were now staring in her direction, especially the guy who had sold her the burger. He looked relieved, probably because they might be liable if she choked to death on their food.
"*Pant pant... * Shit, dude... " she gasped to no one in particular.

Radie had watched as the Inkling was suddenly distracted, towards another, who was choking on their food! Radie turned back to Cato, "there's someone choking!" He exclaimed before rushing past the small Inkling towards the person.
He had almost made it to the table when it looked like the Inkling managed to avoid being choked to death by her bone. Radie stopped, realizing attention was being attracted to the person. Sometimes attention wasn't a good thing for an Octoling, so he sank back into the crowd subtly.
He certainly hoped he didn't scare Cato off!

He gave a gentle laugh back. "Alright. I just wanted to make sure..." Cato said, with a relieved smile. Thank goodness Radie wasn't one of those people.
As soon as he prepared to speak once again, he noticed a loud noise (perhaps a scream?) coming from behind him. He swerved around, cupping over his ears in the meantime to decrease the shock. If there was one thing Cato could not stand, it was things like that.
After it finished echoing, he began to speak up once again. "Mmhm, its--" But his voice trailed off, as Radie ran quickly to another table in the area. Oh dear.
He flinched, and could not help but stare at them and the one who was...choking, apparently. Snapping himself out of it, he stopped himself, and ran over. "Are you alright.....?" He asked Radie and the other Inking, trying not to stare much more.

Catherine was extremely relieved that she was not the only person around, and that the disaster with the choking inkling had been averted. She had noticed the two she had previously been staring at rush over to try and help, as did a number of other inklings in the area. Soon a small crowd had gathered around the chubbier inkling who had been choking, asking if she was okay. Catherine realized that though she could see the purple inkling in that crowd, she had lost track of the pale one. She was sure he had rushed over to help as well, so where was he? Catherine wanted to apologize for staring, she knew it was a bad habit, and one that often unsettled other people.
She finally spotted him again, his large bag giving him away. He was edging away to the outside of the crowd, and looked as though he were trying to shrink into the background. Catherine could tell, because she often did the same thing when she felt overwhelmed. Quietly, she left her seat and scooted around the edge of the crowd, weaving her way between bodies nimbly. Timidly, she tapped her hand on his shoulder.
"Um, excuse me. I uh, I'm sorry for staring earlier, that was rude of me. Sometimes I just...kind of get lost in my thoughts and forget where I'm looking." She apologized, nervously playing with her fingers as she did so.

"I'm *Pant* alright... just found a fish bone in THE worst way possible... "
The dizziness had faded, so at least she could sit upright again.
"First Judd kicks me out until I eat lunch, then there were no scallop fries, and now this... This has been a weird day... Well, half-a-day so far." she said, finally catching her breath.
