Her History

Catherine's parents are split. She currently lives with her mom in an apartment in Flounder Heights. Her brother, Cadmium, lives on his own, but makes it a point to visit Catherine regularly. She loves him a lot. Otherwise, Catherine has had a fairly simple and normal childhood. She went to school, and though she never quite fit in, it never really bothered her, either. She's only 15, so she's only gotten the hang of shapeshifting in the last year. She isn't terribly great at turf wars either, due to her inexperience. But that doesn't bother her either. She isn't interested in being in competitive like her brother and his friends. She is more interested in observing, people watching, writing and speaking dreamily.

Personality

Catherine is 5' 4", a nerdy little girl inkling who is always seen either with a book in her hand or a full backpack over her shoulder. She prefers comfort to style, and generally opts to wear a comfortable flannel shirt and shoes with thick padded soles. Her glasses are large and round, making her look a bit owl-ish. It doesn't help that she doesn't blink too often and sometimes has a habit of staring off into space while she's looking at someone. She's fairly hesitant around new people, but once you get to know her you'll find she's got a bit of a sarcastic/sassy bite to her speech. She'll also often go on in poetry, sometimes about a thing she really enjoys. Once, she spouted poetry about a particularly delicious desert and how life changing it was. She is also quite physically affectionate with those she's friends with, hugging or cuddling them frequently, sometimes laying on them while she reads, sometimes absent minded-ly petting their head. She does get jealous and possessive to those she calls her friends though, sometimes overly-so. She's quick to flee at any conflict though, and has sometimes deserted friends temporarily when they were in a pinch. Don't ask her opinion on doing something, either, as she usually is quick to point out all the negative aspects of that activity.

Likes

As far as Catherine is concerned, she would love nothing more than to hole herself up in her room or a library and spend ages reading poetry, history, or other great works of literature. She's fascinated with the way the prose flows and lives in the poetry and literature, and she's enraptured with the history of what was before Inkling society, in the era of humanity. Nothing is better than this, except, perhaps, a nice comfy sweater and slippers, and maybe a mug of cocoa. She loves all things comfortable and has quite the collection of pillows, stuffed animals and blankets in her room.

One would think that, being the smart girl she is, Catherine would have no trouble in school. However, one subject continues to vex her....MATH. She hates math. She can't seem to understand the concepts and logic behind it. There is some disconnect when the teacher is trying to explain a formula and Catherine just doesn't understand. She hates being so confused all the time. Second only to math, is her dislike of all things creepy-crawly. She isn't sure why, but bugs just creep her out to an extreme degree. Some aren't so bad (ladybugs are cute, and butterflies are pretty), but everything else sends her into a panic. Then there is the quieter, more unsettling fear of the dark. Catherine can't stand being alone in the dark, especially being alone in the dark in a place that isn't her room. If she has to be out in the dark by herself, she's freezes up, on high alert, and is startled very easily by any sound.

Family

Father (No Name): An abusive drunkard. Divorced from her mother when Catherine was only 7. She doesn't know or remember much about him.
Mother (Ruby Lyman): A meek and timid lady. She could never stand up to anyone, and the only reason she divorced her husband in the first place was her sister found out about his abuse and made her leave him. A broken spirited lady.
Older Brother (Cadmium Lyman): A member of a highly competitive yellow team. Lives on his own, away from his mother. Hot tempered and easily irked, but his fury would never be directed towards his sister. He adores Catherine, and spends most weekends with her, taking her to a park on a picnic, taking her to the movies, or doing other bonding type activities. Anyone who wishes to date Catherine will have to stand up to Cadmium's scrutiny.
