Jackson was relaxing a bit now, the café was quiet, the lights peaceful and dim... he never really took a moment to appreciate-*BAM*-NYEEEEHHHHHH what was that?
He looked over and saw a squid looking almost his age slide in and scoot up next to him, only to begin slamming on the counter bell. She started yelling. Where IS this one's common sense of... sense?
He realized he was glaring at her out of the corner of his eye. He stopped just as soon, but the noise was making him uncomfortable...

Kayla was getting impatient, like she always did when something wasn't right. Where are the staff? It's not normal to have a cafe full of hungry customers but no-one to serve them! Someone must know something... As she continued to bang on the bell, she noticed that the boy next to her, who looked around her age, was glaring at her.
"What are you looking at?!"
Then Kayla realised what she was doing.
"Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't see that you were using it!"
She slid the bell over to the boy, and bit her lip nervously. Great job, Kayla. Your ignorance has made you an enemy. I hope that's what you wanted. Might as well ask him what you're wondering and then leave him in peace.
"Umm..." she mumbled, "Do you know where the staff are?"

The inkling next to him gave him a sharp tone, Jackson looked at her directly now. Though her expression and tone lightened once she did. Maybe this is what happened when I glare and people notice...
"Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't see that you were using it!"
Using what? She slid the bell over to him. Oh. Well, I think I just made this awkward. Jackson gave a look of chagrin and punched the bell back to her.
"Do you know where the staff are?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, they went in back a few minutes ago and haven't come back yet. Another guy ran back there too... Three of 'em. My guess is that they're... doing... café things."
He wanted badly to point not to bang service bells like that, but he wasn't feeling like he was in the right that much. He kinda just sat there and looked over to the door where the staff had gone.

Kayla was surprised when the bell got bashed back to her. What? So he wasn't about to use it? Then why did he glare at me? Hmmm....oh! It was because I banged on the bell like that! Well, that does make more sense...But now he must think I'm a wrecker of things. Well I am, but not as much as he must think...
"They went in back a few minutes ago and haven't come back yet. Another guy ran back there too... Three of 'em. My guess is that they're... doing... café things."
Kayla was brought out of her head when the boy spoke again.
"Ah, I thought so! You must think I'm chaos on legs now...You see, I just got worried that something had happened to the staff, and I wanted to make sure that if they were in the cafe, they would be able to hear me and..." Kayla realised she was stammering on and immediately stopped.
"So...what's your name? Mine's Kayla Tackleshark!"

"Okay, okay, that's fine." Wow, she is... very honest. Or psychic. "Just... no bells." Jackson expressed a wry smile as the inkling introduced herself. "My name? Jackson. Jackson Mantamute." He gave a little wave, "Good to meet you, Kayla."

"Okay, okay, that's fine, just... no bells." the boy replied,"My name? Jackson. Jackson Mantamute. Good to meet you, Kayla."
"Good to meet you too," Kayla sat down a few seats next to him and twiddled her fingers. She desperately wanted to start up a conversation, but she didn't know what to start it off with. Maybe he's interested in...umm...nope, we've got nothing. Come to think of it, the staff must have been in the back for a pretty long time, with all these customers with no food... Hey, you've got a chocolate bar from earlier in your pocket, right? Eat it! Kayla took out her choco-mel, which her friend had gave to her earlier, and began to take small bites, savouring it as every piece fell onto her tongue.
"So, what weapon do you use?"

New Squiffer...huh. Kayla wasn't particularly fond of using chargers, but as one of her friends used the E-Liter 3k Scope she knew a little bit about them. As for the Inkzooka, Kayla wasn't that fond of. It was too much like chargers for her liking. Of course it was quicker, wider and no charge was required, but it also pushed the wielder back every time the trigger was pulled. However, Kayla didn't hate the New Squiffer, so she didn't judge.
"I use the Splattershot Jr. It's actually quite good, as you can group together and push forward without having to worry about attack. A lot of people think that it's not very good just because it's the starter weapon. I hate that."
Kayla more than hated it. Anyone who said that was instantly her enemy. She hoped that no one in the cafe thought of her weapon like that. She bit into her chocolate bar again and began to think.

"Huh. That's strange of them to think."
Jackson had little fondness for "Splat Jr.s". They weren't the worst things ever, but the crazy non-stop spray of shots they had made it hard to feel comfortable around them. Within himself, he often thought he should like them a lot more than he should. But right now he wasn't in a turf war, he was just relaxing at a café and chatting. Taking a deep breath he continued to soak in the atmosphere.
I guess the cookies can wait a bit longer...

Kayla didn't respond. She was too busy thinking about her day. She had been up in a few matches with a squad she knew, and her team had won all four matches. She had made a new friend, a girl with violet tentacles, a slosher and a sarcastic attitude. The ranked battles, though, had been the best. It had been tower control with Urchin Underpass and Blackberry Skatepark, two of her favourite stages and her second favourite ranked battle mode. Her squad had only lost four battles out of twenty, and Kayla had always been first, with the most turf coverage and (almost) the highest number of inklings splatted. As she remembered her day, she couldn't believe that she had done all of that on an empty stomach. Speaking of empty stomachs... Kayla suddenly remembered that the staff still hadn't come out from the back. All these unserved customers...but no-one seems to care...
"How long have they been back there? I'm not being impatient for my food, I'm just wondering what's happened to them..."

Still no sight of any staff, and conversation could only sporadicaly be heard. The café wasn't too boisterous, and he quite liked the music playing in the background, but the lack of—"business" going on made him quite suspicious. However, he shrugged it off and went back to reading the book. «The commander's face appeared hardened and imperturbable, as if it was a stone wall, unmoving. "Our trudge will start tomorrow. Seven o'clock sharp. Absolutely no delay is»—Seymour had to look the Octoling word up in his dictionary there—«permissible. This is also peremptory. Do not dare disobey!"» He looked around again, and wondered if he should just explore the place to see if he could get any attention. Disregarding that idea for now, he kept on reading. «That night, as the young soldier lay awake in his bunk, he began to begrudge the civilians. Not because they didn't have to go on the expedition, but because they have an army who guards them. He envied the Inklings, with all the control in the world, more privilege than they need. He turned over, and thought on his family with much saudade. A family he will never have again.» He got to the end of the chapter, so he decided that it was a good time to put the book down, stretch, and explore the place. He left his Splatterscope leaning against the table, signifying that the seat was taken, but zipped up his bag and mounted it on his back.
I'm gonna have to go ahead and start replying again. Please talk to my nerd he is lonely

As she got up, Kayla realised that one of the staff had come back, so she sat herself back down. From what she heard in the speech, she assumed that he was the manager and that he had heard her bell-bashing. She stared at the counter sheepishly and tapped her fingers on her knee. Go on, now that the staff are here, tell them what you want! She looked at the menu, but she couldn't find anything that she particularly wanted.
"Er...Excuse me?" Kayla asked nervously,"Do you have any recommendations on which food tastes best?"
