Still reeling from xis own outburst and the confrontation, Vincent gritted xis teeth as Casper's remarks hit xis ears, which were pounding with xis heartbeat. Grabbing at xis chest, Vincent felt spikes of anxiety run through him like electricity, constricting around xis heart, and it was in public no less. Vincent was used to breaking down, but never, never like this. Not anywhere else outside the comfort of xis own room. But xe couldn't do this, not right now. Xe couldn't give in to Casper's taunts.
Xe pulled out xis phone from xis pocket, answering the call, but when xe went to say a greeting to Father, xe found xis throat dry and no words in xis mind. "Vincent. Where are you? I told you to be back by now." Father's voice came through loud and clear. It was on speakerphone. Vin might have cursed under his breath at that realization, had he the brainpower. Before xe could collect ximself further, Father went on like a whirlwind. "This is why I can't trust you. You're not getting a day off from me like this again, ever. And I've changed my mind about the training. You won't be working on your aim today. You'll be working on how to keep a game going even after a personal injury."
Oh, no. Just when xe thought this day couldn't get any worse, it kept on and kept on. Vincent swallowed harshly, and then tried to take another step back, but with how dizzy xe felt, xe ended up tripping over xis own feet, falling on his hindquarters to the concrete, the phone falling from xis grasp for the moment. Vin imagined the three's laugh before it even had a chance to become true, and xis terror was as if it had already happened.
"Do you fucking hear me?"
Shaking badly with fear, Vincent snapped back into reality, picked up the phone and skateboard, trying desperately to ignore the way xe felt. Why, why didn't xe run sooner, why didn't xe -- well, it was too late now. All xe could do was try to make up for lost time, and do everything xe could to make it up to Father. Even if the thought of going through another one of those sessions would sometimes make xim let out a choked sob in the middle of the night. Xe didn't bother replying to anything else said by the three, just immediately attempted to escape, praying to anything above that there would be nothing else stopping xim this time.

Sadly, despite her attention being focused on the two boys, she could still hear bits of the call. Octoling hearing wasn't as sharp as Inkling hearing was, but she could at least pick up the negative tone of the voice. She did not like the sound of it one little bit; whichever cruel individual was on the other end gave her the slightest mixed twinge of fear and anger.
Despite the green Inkling's actions, Mar believed nobody deserved that sort of treatment. She made a mental note to definitely find and check on Vin at a later date. If she could work up the nerve to approach xim, that is.
Shaking her head of these thoughts, Mar glanced back towards the two Inklings now speaking with her. "O-okay... Sorry... Thank you..." She muttered to Casper; he sounded so annoyed with her. Still, neither of them seemed to want her completely gone yet. Mar forced herself to stare straight at them, albeit a little nervously.
At Iggy's statement, however, her expression went from one of uncertainty to one of slight shock. "Oh, no, no! I don't mind! I would love to help you both out. If-if you still need it..." She fixed her gaze back towards the pavement. "I don't have a permanent team myself. And I'm not too bad at turf wars, if you're worried about something like that..." That gentle pink hue started to become apparent in her cheeks once more.
"But, um... it's still okay to say no."

Casper's anger had faded for the most part in favor of some lingering caution, and though the worst of their altercation already seemed to have passed, he refused to let his guard down. There was no way of knowing what Vin might do next, what with how xe'd acted out just a few seconds ago. He drew his attention from Iggy and Mar at the sound of an unfamiliar voice, realizing soon after that it was coming from Vincent's phone. Bewildered, Cas stared after xim, noticing immediately the aggressive nature of the words the stranger was saying. It was enough to distract him from his bitterness, at least, and gradually, the displeased look upon his face faded, replaced instead with incredulity. Physical injury?
Regardless of the hostile words being spoken, though, Vincent didn't seem to react at all - xe was frozen to the spot, phone in hand, and though Casper couldn't see xis face, he could only assume given xis posture how afraid xe must have been. An unwelcome stab of concern willed his expression to soften. Who was that guy - and what was his problem? Whatever it was, he didn't seem to have anything good planned for Vincent, and the suggestion alone was enough to make him feel guilty. He started when the green inkling stumbled and fell, thoroughly surprised, and felt the distant urge to help xim. In the end, however, he merely hesitated, and by the time the angry voice sounded from the phone again, xe'd already gotten back on xis feet and gathered xis things.
A few moments after Vincent had started off, Casper finally let his gaze wander, fairly displeased with the discomfort the inkling had left in xis wake; he couldn't seem to shake his worry, either. Frustrated, he eventually sighed, posture slackening, and elected to try and forget anything had happened at all. Whatever. It wasn't like there was anything he could do, anyway - especially not after everything that had just happened.
Tucking his hands into his coat pockets, he turned back to Mar at the sound of her reply, and though he seemed distant at first, some realization gripped his features a moment later at the sound of her apology. Casper blinked, looking confused, and echoed, "Sorry--?" Before he could continue, though, Iggy spoke, this time addressing Mar, as well. He became suddenly aware of just how much he'd missed while he'd been bickering with Vincent. Glancing between the two of them, he allowed himself time to understand just what was going on. Then, for a moment, he little more than stared at Mar, visibly at a loss. He lifted his brow. "Wait, so -- wait, you... you want to join our team?" he finally managed, sounding just as bewildered as he felt.

There was a notable silence; Vin hadn't said a word, and Iggy began to believe the inkling had already left when the sound of a new voice, one edged with aggression and static, captured his attention. Hesitating, he turned his head, surprised to find Vincent still standing rigid close by. The clarity of the voice sounding from the phone in xis hand left no room for imagination; it wasn't difficult to discern just what each harsh word implied. His eyes shifted from the phone to Vin's face, where he found an expression lined by sheer panic.
Realization was followed closely by pity - it revealed itself in little more than the minute tightening of his brow. Had he not witnessed Vin's unpredictable behavior just moments prior, Iggy might have acted on the urge to help the fearful inkling to his feet when xe fell onto the concrete. A mindful distance was maintained instead, although there seemed very little likelihood that Vincent would lash out a second time.
Electing to spare Vincent what was surely an unwanted audience, he looked away, allowing the rapid footfalls that followed to notify him of xis departure. Iggy didn't comment on the shocking occurrence, never mind the conflict he felt breaching his thoughts; it wouldn't do any good.
Mar's timid reply seemed a drastic change from what had just transpired, but that was no reason to behave rudely. A bit of distraction shown upon his face, but it was cast aside just as quickly by a tired smile and shake of his head. "We're not in any position to nitpick." Iggy glanced at Casper, finding the blue inkling unanimous in his surprise. An unexpected offer, undoubtedly, but not at all unwelcome. "Skill isn't very high on the list of priorities anymore," he elaborated, adding pointedly, "there are worse things than inexperience."
Seeming reluctant to continue without some amount of input from Casper, he hesitated, glancing sideways with a look of silent expectation.
