Their first meeting with Mar hadn't been... ideal, but at least something good had come of it. It had only been a few days since their initial encounter, and thankfully, it seemed there was little left that could go wrong. After all, there wasn't much dangerous about a simple get-together. Iggy only hoped it would prove to be a success. Despite the chill of Winter hanging stubbornly in the air, the day was pleasant enough that the kitchen windows had been left slightly ajar, permitting a refreshing and fragrant breeze. Sunlight fell in rectangular patches over the table and hardwood floors, haloing each surface with a distinctively warm glow. Casper had arrived not long ago, and since then, they'd done little more than wait. Sitting at the table with his chin in his hand, Iggy finished his thought, staring absently out the open window, "I don't think we have much to worry about - anyone's better than that kid from the skate park." Hesitating, he frowned, glancing apprehensively back at Casper. "Just try to contain yourself when she gets here, alright?" he added, sounding wary. "She seems..." A brief pause followed before Iggy decided, "A little sensitive." Sensitive sure beat sadistic, anyways. TAGGED: Casper Boone , Mar [this is super short & plain sORRY]

Casper's mind had been reeling since the day they'd met Mar. He'd been on the verge of giving up hope that they'd manage to find another team member when she'd showed up, practically out of nowhere, and offered to join them, even after seeing everything that had happened with Vincent. Apparently miracles came in all sorts of different shapes and sizes - and sometimes in the form of really... weird inklings.
The typical lethargy he felt during the afternoon had left him in place of his excitement. Weird or not, Casper wasn't about to complain. She'd more than proven herself as far as he was convinced, and a bit of social awkwardness was certainly no reason to turn down a helping hand.
Bouncing his leg, he tapped his fingers rhythmically against the tabletop, then permitted a sigh and leaned back in his seat. "When's she gonna get here?" he whined, dropping his head against the backrest and folding his arms. "It's been like, ten minutes." Glancing Iggy's way at the sound of his voice, Cas hesitated and then gave him a skeptical look. "Dude, I'm not worried. Are you worried?" When his companion continued again, he couldn't help the incredulity which took hold of his features. "Uh, you think? I'm not gonna make her cry or anything. Chillax."

If ever there was a moment where Mar was more anxious, it certainly had slipped her mind by now. Approaching the door to the given address seemed to be the most terrifying thing she'd ever done.
Mar had never done anything like this before. What if this was the wrong house? What if this was a bad time? What if they knew she was an Octoling and this was all a trap? Maybe she shouldn't have come. Maybe she should turn around, go back to her room, and stay in there until these two had forgotten all about her...
... No... that wouldn't be very nice at all. These boys were counting on her to fill the roll on their team. She had already kept them waiting so long, the least she could do for them was show up at all! Especially after all the trouble they'd gone through last time at the skatepark. Even if she and Vincent were on decent terms, she could agree that it was a rather... unpleasant experience for everybody.
Standing at the front step, the Mimic raised a hand and gave two gentle knocks at the door. Afterwards, taking a quick moment to straighten out her shirt, adjust her hat, and prepare a somewhat-crooked smile.
May as well look nice at least.

Trying not to pay Casper's incessant fidgeting any mind, he made a face at the other boy's exasperated remark. "It hasn't been that long," Iggy pointed out. It was only when the blue Inkling continued that a sheepish frown formed at his lips, and he deflected the comment with an assuring, "No, I'm not worried." At Casper's reply, he narrowed his eyes a bit, skeptical. "It's not that." Iggy pulled the corner of his mouth to one side, dismissing the comment with a passive "Never mind - it'll be fine."
Scarcely a moment after he'd finished speaking, a timid knocking sounded at the door. Glancing into the entrance hall, he hesitated, pushing himself up from the chair with a knowing look at Casper. He wasn't sure what he expected - after all, his companion was nothing if not friendly; surely he would do an apt job of making Mar feel at ease.
At least, that was what he hoped. Closing the distance between himself and the entrance hall, he smoothed the front of his shirt and opened the door. A slight smile was offered upon finding Mar there. "Hey - I hope you didn't have too much trouble finding the right address," Iggy said, standing aside so as to allow her inside. "Come on in." So far, so good.

"Yeah, well, it feels like it's been a long time," he mumbled, verging on a pout. Restless, Casper leaned forward again and crossed his arms upon the table, propping his chin on top of his forearm and glancing idly out the window. He little more than arched an eyebrow at Iggy's reply, visibly unconvinced. "Sure you're not."
At the distant knocking upon the door, Cas perked up immediately. Sitting up straight, he glanced towards Iggy only to find he'd already risen from his seat to go and answer the door. Brimming with enthusiasm, Casper stood and trailed after him, bouncing on his feet as he went. Finally!
Not long after Iggy opened the door and invited her inside, the blue inkling slipped past him and propped one elbow against the door frame, leaning up against it with a grin. "Yo, it's about time you showed up! Nice to see you again!" Upon looking her over, however briefly, the smile on his face waned a bit, adopting a slightly amused air when he went on, "Remind me to take you shopping for new gear sometime, by the way -- no offense or anything, but you could do way better. You pull off the stuff you've got now just fine, though! It's a good thing you're so cute." His grin broadened, a mischievous way about him now.
Whether he failed to realize or failed to care that he was blocking the doorway, one couldn't be sure.

Mar couldn't help but jump slightly upon hearing the faint click of the door opening. Right away she directed her gaze upwards to greet whoever had answered, offering her sweetest smile. Mostly out of kindness, but somewhat out of relief; this was the right address! "Not at all! Thank you for inviting me." Afterwards, she'd given a slight bow out of politeness-- force of habit on her part.
"Sure thing, I'd l-" Her response to Iggy's offer immediately cut off as Cas cut in. Ah... a little abrupt, but easily forgiven. Despite Mar's expression shifting to one of only slight discomfort, she was ready to respond just as kindly to Casper as well. She'd opened her mouth to say something, until he made that comment.
The Mimic's brows raised in... surprise. What sort of greeting was that? Did he really mean it that way? She'd thought her gear was pretty cute already! Was there a stain somewhere that she'd somehow missed this morning??
Needless to say, whatever confidence she had over her outward appearance previously had completely vanished; in its place, a hot flush of confusion and embarrassment.
"Cute? Ah... Um... Th-thank you...??" She gave a quick, albeit awkward, smile towards Casper before directing her eyes towards the ground. Despite his 'compliment' on her physical appearance, she'd still become very self-conscious all of a sudden. It wasn't her fault she wasn't 'fresh' enough for better gear, yet!
Instead of trying to politely ask Casper to move aside, Mar opted to stand there, awkwardly, praying the situation would just resolve itself.

It hadn't been long, but she seemed at ease enough - that had to be a good sign, right? Looking on patiently as Mar spoke in reply, his polite smile faltered only when Casper arrived, cluelessly placing himself between Mar and the entrance. A perturbed frown followed, and with a feeling of impending unease, he watched the back of Casper's head as he rattled on without a trace of regret. He felt his short-lived optimism perish the more the blue Inkling spoke, and by the time his companion's thoughtless words had reached their conclusion, little more than a look of poorly-repressed dismay remained upon his face.
Iggy pressed his lips into a thin line, resisting the temptation to elbow Casper's side. Deigning to spare Mar any further discomfort (as much as it pained him to let Casper's stupidity go unchecked), he cleared his throat and added, "Your gear is fine, don't worry - he's just..." He's just being a tactless idiot. Crossing his arms, he tapped his index finger absently against his arm and cast Casper a pointed glare. "... He's just teasing."
Making a determined effort to compose the irritation forming in his expression, he stepped aside and gave Casper a loose wave. "You may want to give her some room to come in, Cas." Iggy stifled a sigh, pointing out as an afterthought, "It's chilly out."

[nospaces] | live a life you will remember [break] these are the nights that never die when you get older, your wild heart will live for younger days. |
[attr="class","robot3"] [attr="class","robot"] Utterly confident in his greeting, his expression neglected to wane even slightly in its certainty when Mar responded, visibly flustered, and then fell silent, diverting her attention stiffly to the ground at her feet. It didn't once cross his mind that he might have made her uncomfortable - she was just shy, after all, and he was awfully charming. He tended to have that effect on people. [break][break] Thoroughly content with himself, Casper gave no notice to the fact that Iggy was staring daggers at his back. Instead, he grinned proudly and replied, "Hey, don't mention it." It was only at the yellow Inkling's interjection that he so much as hesitated, casting a dubious glance in Iggy's direction. Teasing? He surely would have argued, had it not been for the way his teammate was looking at him. As baffled as he was, the glare was at least enough to make him bite his tongue, and rather than protest, he agreed after a moment of hesitation, his smile having since adopted a sheepish air, "I mean... yeah! Your gear's great -- totally great! I'm just kiddin' with you. Don't sweat it!" [break][break] Resolving to ignore his impulses and comply with whatever Iggy said (so as to avoid having his ass reamed once Mar left), he stepped out of the way and held his hands behind his back, a bit of vaguely uncomfortable laughter escaping him before he managed to stifle it. Clearing his throat, he gestured loosely with one hand before tucking it behind his back again and continued, "Yeah, though, uh... Come on in... dude." [attr="class","landfill-link"] fly away, far away, I know why the caged bird sings [attr="class","landfill-scroll"]In light of the situation, she supposed this could have started off much worse; then again, it also should have gone much better. Still, she wanted to remain optimistic for what was about to come, as there was certainly no backing out now.
Unfortunately, her mind already had begun to drown out their voices in anxious thoughts, replacing her verbal responses with simple nods. Had it not been for the split second she had looked upwards, Mar might have been standing there for a good few seconds longer.
Slight embarrassment hit upon realizing how silly she must have looked. The urge to smack her own forehead was suppressed instead by a rather awkward smile. "Ah, thanks." She muttered quickly before shuffling past the two and into the house. Once a good ways in, Mar glanced about at the interior.
It had been her first time inside an Inkling's abode, and already it seemed to be a nice improvement from her current 'home'. In her eyes, it seemed very well decorated, with a rather comforting air.
Then, she glanced down. Was she to remove her boots? Was it considered rude to walk with shoes indoors? Or was it different for guests? She had no idea, and Mar dealt with this new roadblock in the only way she knew how; casually pressing herself against one of the walls and waiting for directions. | commentary |
