Vincent's jaw stretched out in a quiet yawn, and he wiped at his eyes when they watered. Not only was he cycling through secondary jobs again this week (Turf Wars were a good way to get cash sometimes, especially through betting - but...not quite enough), but he'd only gotten three hours of sleep that night, practically smashing the alarm clock with how badly his fist had come down on the 'off' button. At last he was somewhat back in his element, hanging around in Bluefin Depot, blissfully alone and unaware of any troubles other than his own.

That's the way he liked it, sometimes. Averting his red eyes to the sky, Vincent didn't think much of the way the clouds were suddenly graying above. "Well," He began to himself. "At least this day can't get much -" As if disobeying these words, the sky crackled and opened up suddenly. It began with a soft sprinkle, but within the five seconds of silence that Vincent allowed, the weather had been transformed into a waterfall of rain. "Worse." He finished, gnashing his teeth together.

Shivering as the cold set in, Vincent took off, footsteps heavy against the suddenly wet concrete. He didn't much care for making noise in what was a pretty empty district. With some effort, he was able to crack open a large door to a big empty building. Quickly ducking into the shelter, Vincent sighed with relief, and then shuddered. "F-Freezing..." Rubbing his hands together and breathing into them in desperation, the green Inkling went further into the building.

Needlessly to say, the situation brought his mood into the negatives. Vincent grunted as he sat on the floor of the building, bringing his legs in and holding his knees. He pondered his options. With any luck, the storm would end as quickly as it had came, but...the man supposed this was the problem with being as introverted as he was. At times where someone's help or advice was actually wanted, there was simply no one around to give it. Groaning, Vincent curled up further.

Whether or not it would rain that day was not up for discussion; it was simply a matter of when.
The air had grown humid and heavy, and with every passing minute, the clouds overhead grew darker. By the time the sky opened up, Jace was far from surprised, but he was inconvenienced. He wouldn't be able to get much done in weather like this. If there really had been an Octoling sighted at the Depot, he severely doubted he'd be able to find them now.
At the very least, he'd dressed appropriately, thanks to being on the job; the rain slid without resistance off of his Armor Jacket, effectively keeping him dry. Still, he doubted it would stay that way for long. The downpour was getting heavier by the second.
Squinting to see through the rain, it was then that he glimpsed someone in the distance moving at a hurried pace towards a nearby structure, though he couldn't make out much other than their silhouette in the storm. Incited by both the promise of shelter and the possibility that the stranger could be the Octoling he'd caught wind of, he followed without hesitation, gripping the handle of his roller a bit tighter in preparation for whatever awaited him.
Once inside, and he was sure to leave plenty of space between himself and the stranger, he followed after them cautiously, his steps light, until they stopped, turned, and took a seat on the floor. Recognition passed over Jace's face, his posture relaxing considerably at the sight. Talk about unexpected.
Stepping out from behind the wall he'd concealed himself behind, he lifted his roller and rested it against his shoulder, watching Vin from a few yards away in comfortable silence for a few moments - apart from the thundering rain against the roof overhead, of course. Then, in a surprisingly passive tone, he asked, "Comfortable?"

It seemed a higher power answered his soft prayers for company, but of course - decided to hex him rather than give him a blessing. At the familiar voice, Vincent nearly shot out of his skin, eyes widening and legs kicking out, not unlike a porcupine straightening it's spikes. The sea green inkling whipped his head around, but when he saw Jace, all the shock drained from his features, instead replaced with irritation. "Oh, it's you." Vincent said plainly.

Perhaps if it were anyone else, he would have said little more than that. But Dumbass was something of a special acquaintance. Because of that, he inhaled and spoke again once he was done glowering. "Does it look like anyone could be comfortable in this dump?" Vincent snapped at him, voice dripping with venom. He must have looked a bit like a soaked cat, for all his temper. "I'd ask what you're doing here with a roller, but given I'm talking to a freak like you, I think I'm better off not knowing the reason."

Folding his arms and turning his eyes away, he groaned under his breath, seething. Stupid Dumbass. And what did he think he was getting into, anyway? Who in their right mind would willingly initiate another conversation with someone who made it clear he hated his guts? At least, Vincent had thought he'd made it clear. Maybe with such a thick skull it took a few business days to really get the idea through there.

He felt a twinge of amusement rather than offense at Vincent's reaction, but it didn't reach his face. Of course he wasn't happy to see Jace - come to think of it, he couldn't recall having seen him smile even once since they'd met. Maybe that wasn't saying much, though, given how they hadn't spent much time together at all.
"Maybe you'd be more comfortable outside." As if to emphasize his point, a rumble of thunder overhead shook the walls of the old building. Jace fought the urge to smile, then took a few steps forward and set the tip of his roller upon the ground, resting his elbow against its surface and leaning against it. "Why do you think I'm here with a roller? I have a feeling your answer would be considerably more interesting than mine."
Pursing his lips in thought, he gazed off to the side and then inquired casually, "You haven't seen any Octarians around, by the way, have you? Or should I be checking nearby dumpsters?" |

Vincent took to folding his legs again, curling in on himself. He closed his eyes, but still kept the same grumpy expression on since he knew he'd have an audience at least. The sound of Jace's voice didn't exactly irritate him, surprisingly - it was rather smooth, but the words, those were an entirely different story. "Hmph." He would have graced Jace's reply with a sarcastic bout laughter if he'd been feeling up to it. But a scoff would have to do for now. Granted, the next words spoken did not annoy him (a miracle), but instead confused Vincent - threw him off his guard.

Perhaps the reason being Jace didn't seem overly rude or sarcastic in tone. He seemed to want Vincent to genuinely answer his question, which had Vincent casting him a concerned look over his shoulder. It had been a long, long while since anyone had cared, let alone been interested in what Vincent had to say about a subject. He felt a little anxious, not to mention put on the spot.

But before he could flounder around, the other male subtly supplied an answer to the question on his own, which made Vincent calm down. Ah. Right. He frowned. "No, I haven't. No matter what you might think, I don't actually go looking for trouble. It just tends to find me often." He gave Jace a skeptical once over, gesturing to him. "Case in point."

Unbothered by Vincent's momentary silence, he took his time simply listening to the sounds of the storm outside while he waited; he'd been prepared to fill the quiet on his own by the time the other Inkling spoke, his tone serious and housing a slight edge, as usual. Jace frowned at the sound of his words, but neglected to look at him.
"Shame. I was hoping you'd seen one - I even followed you here thinking you were one. Guess luck's not in my favor today," he replied, the words matter-of-fact. "And I'm just looking for trouble, actually. That's the job description; wouldn't say I really fall under the whole 'trouble' category myself, though I guess I'd be considered troubling to a certain group of people."
Without missing a beat, he looked back at Vin, lifting his brow slightly, and inquired, "I already know I have an excuse to be here, though. What's yours? Didn't see the storm clouds? Or do you secretly enjoy getting stranded out in the middle of nowhere with strangers?" |

"Sounds like your problem, not mine." The green inkling grumbled out, shifting his gaze away from his unlucky acquaintance. He thought for a moment. "Looking for trouble only to put a stop to it is kind of a different thing, I think." Vincent told him, looking back to him with a question in his eyes. "That is, if you're being honest about your job." It wasn't like he really cared either way - Vincent only made by with his Turf War money (well, though he did make a lot of it, from all the training he'd endured back in the day) so other people could do what they wanted.

At Jace's last words, he cracked out a laugh. "Don't flatter yourself." He shook his head, smiling a little bit, and though it was sarcastic it seemed more genuine than anything he'd given before. It disappeared within the next second, however. "I just..." He trailed off, going quiet for a few moments. "...Got nothing better to do. And I didn't think that storm would get here so fast."
