Rain doesn't hurt beings in the Mollusc Era. Only large bodies of water can splat them. Therefore they can go out in rain and drink water, but can't go in the sea or fairly large puddles.
Bonus: Because their bodies contain as much ink as a human body contained water, they cry and sweat their ink colour
