• TURF WAR 101
The crowning jewel of Inkling culture: Turf War! Turf War is known far and wide as Inkopolis' most popular competitive sport. It's more than just a game; this historical sport has been carried through the ages, and even as the world changes, Turf War remains the same - and so does the passion of its many participants!
If you're not already familiar with the basics of Turf War, the stuff written here should give you a clue. If you are, well... You don't have to worry about reading all of this!
Now, about inking and splatting - these are the goals of Turf War. Each team spends the entirety of the match covering turf with their team's ink, and in the end, the team to claim the most turf wins! Splatting enemies during the match earns your team valuable time in reclaiming enemy turf, but even a high splat count won't win you a match. It's all about teamwork and coordination - each team has their own unique strategy, so it's important to take note of this when facing off against new opponents.
Spreading ink can be done in all manner of ways, and being the goal of Turf War, it's pretty important to get a workable system of your own down! Keep in mind that your ink will run out if you don't refill your ink tank regularly; this can be done by submerging in your own team's ink for a short time. Enemy ink should be covered up on sight, and remember - walking in enemy ink is near impossible, so make sure you don't get stuck. Being hit with enemy ink hurts, and too many blows from an enemy weapon could get you splatted.
If you're splatted, you're returned immediately to your team's spawn point, a safe haven that serves not only as a starting point of sorts, but a constant safety net for splatted Inklings. It takes a while to respawn, though, so you'll want to avoid getting splatted when you can!
As mentioned before, each weapon comes with its own sub weapon and special. Your sub weapons use quite a bit of ink, so watch out for that! Your specials, on the other hand, will become usable once your special gauge has filled. You can fill your special gauge by spreading ink and splatting enemies, and once it's full, your special is ready to go! Using your special automatically refills your ink tank, too.

THE BASICS
Turf War consists of two opposing teams of four. Each team is assigned a color for the duration of the match, providing them distinction from their opponents. Each participant is equipped with a weapon, sub weapon and special - these combinations vary depending on the choice of the individuals themselves, but we'll get into that later! These weapons are key in Turf War, as they're used not only to spread ink, but splat the opposing team. Now, about inking and splatting - these are the goals of Turf War. TURF WAR TEAMS
Turf War teams aren't too complicated; they're either randomized or chosen. Depending on your own personal preference, you can choose to be matched up at random with other Inklings or build/join a team of your own. While chosen teams have their own advantages, randomized teams can be easier for kids who'd rather hop right into Turf War without any prior planning. This is a great way to get a feel for Turf War and adjust to an unpredictable battlefield.WEAPONS: COVERAGE & SPLATTING
