The day went by quite slowly, but at least things were rather peaceful. Some quiet time with a decent piece of literature was something Finn desperately needed for a long time and thus, the Octosniper retreated to the quietest place he knew. The library wasn´t exactly crowded on days like these, giving the marksman some time by himself in which he could sit down and read.
The loudest sound in the room would likely be the Octarian´s high-heeled shoes colliding with the floor as he wandered over to pick out a novel written by one of his favourite authors. Finding the nearest seat that wasn`t broken or dirty, Finn sunk into a sitting position with a sigh, placing the book he had chosen in front of himself, considering he had only one tentacle which he would need to flip the pages with.

It was one of those occasions where Jian had been given off-duty time earlier than normal. Perhaps the all-clear that day was to blame, but now she was left with how to spend the rest of her free hours. Her usual exercise routine only lasted for so long and there was still time left. The extra hours lead her find herself at Barbel Library. She wasn't much for reading, but flexing the mind wouldn't hurt, right?
The quiet of the room was broken as Jian's footsteps were heard as she entered. One would hardly recognize her as an elite soldier in her more casual attire if it weren't for the black tentacles and seaweed keeping her tentacles tied. Approaching the shelves, she looked over the selection, tapping her cheek as she browsed through the various titles lining the shelf.

The small sounds of footsteps told Finn that someone else was present. The sniper didn`t perk up, though. It wasn`t like he was alone by any means. The library was a public place and Finn was glad for anyone that still apprechiated books. The Octarian merely sat up straight, briefly reaching upward to adjust his goggles, and then returned to reading. His expression seemed calm rather than bored as the marksman`s eyes briefly darted to the Octoling that came into view.
Hm, Finn wasn`t exactly sure what to make of her. It was likely just a student that got off the academy early and didn`t know what to do. Instead of saying anything to disturb the peace, the Octarian once more immersed himself into the book he was reading.

Jian's eyes went along the spines of the book before stopping at one in particular. Even if she didn't spend too much time reading books, the name of this author was unfamiliar to her. The title of the book, 'War And Peace' stuck out to her the most. She reached up and grabbed the book to take a better look at it. It was rather old, almost as if it had been neglected for centuries. She opened the cover to find a note reading: "This piece is exceptionally rare. Please handle with care."
She rubbed her neck in thought, wondering what exactly made this book so rare before noticing the publication date. She blinked in surprise as she noted the date to be 1869; more than 12,000 years ago. This must be one of the books written by the humans and anything from their civilization that wasn't fossilized was a one in a million find. Curious as to what the contents of this piece of literature were, she carefully took the book to a nearby seat, taking little heed of the sniper across from her, and sat comfortably, turning the page to begin reading.

The book Finn had chosen was a fictional novel. Usually, history books or documentaries were a little too grim for him. He had been studying those long enough to be sick of them, instead immersing himself in a world where things could`ve been better than they really were. The book that the Octoling in the same room had chosen was one that Finn had noticed before, but never read for the same reason which was the diversion from reality.
Silently, the Octarian observed as his comrade picked the familar book up. When the Octoling turned around, he sight was once more distracted by the novel he was reading with the same, idle frown he always seemed to wear. He seemed just a little surprised when the other sat in front of him out of all places. It wasn`t like the library was full or there was nowhere else to sit. The sniper rose his gaze once more, more apparently this time. "Interested in history, I see?" He spoke, neither in a friendly or a hostile tone of voice. "Truth be told, I did not expect people as young as you to pay much mind to the past."

The words on the pages caught Jian's attention rather successfully. Octarian literature had it's own spin on things, but the content of this book was as foreign as it was fascinating. She had not gone passed the first few paragraphs and already she had found herself unable to put the book down; an unusual occurrence for someone as physically centered as she.
Her focus was shifted to the octarian that was addressing her. She didn't really notice him initially. She glanced his direction as she replied in an equally plain tone. "Eh...I'll be honest with ya, I'm not much for readin'. It's kinda fascinating, though, ya know? Ya don't really find this sorta thing in books these days."

It was rather endearing to observe how hooked the Octarian youth was almost immediately after flipping to the first page of the book. The pages were stiff and worn, but the Octoling treated them carefully, which was something that Finn apprechiated. While he hated history, he always held deep respect for it. However the Octosniper would not stare as he percieved this as rude and instead returned his attention to the novel before him, getting just past the Prologue and entering the first actual Chapter of the story itself.
"Books usually hold more truth than the inkternet does." Finn responded in a comedic manner, "It takes far more effort to write a book instead of making a simple post, isn`t that true?" But the marksman wouldn`t lie to himself. He preferred to read online, though it was hard to get a working computer, let alone find an online connection anywhere.

"Yep...I'm with ya on that one." Jian answered as her eyes slowly drifted back to the page she was on. Any fool could make a post on the internet. It took a sharp mind to write a book that would eventually become a great work. Of course, the Octoling didn't know that the she was holding one such work herself. She carefully turned to the next page to continue.
While she was intrigued by the text, she found it somewhat difficult to comprehend. Many of the historical references made were lost on her. After all, this was dealing with events that happened far, far beyond her time. However, as she pressed onward through the first chapter, she came to realize that humans had about as many wars as Octarians and Inklings did, but what struck her as strange is that they did not appear to be over turf.

Finn nodded his head quietly in approval of the other`s words. Something made the Octosniper curious what kind of horror would await him back from where this book was. The internet always existed, right? Well, he never quite understood its origins and how it was maintained. He only hardly cared. Slowly, he continued going through the first chapter of his novel, which was a rather simple story.
Long periods of silence passed as Jian could hear a small thump. It seemed that the Octosniper before her had finished reading for the time behind and already scooted off his chair in order to return the book he had picked out into its shelf, seemingly taking extra care into sorting it by the correct numbers, genres and letters afterwards.

Jian hardly noticed the other get up from the seat. She was wrapped up in the book's pages. Her mind was really set on trying to make sense of it all. She got the base concepts, yes, but some of it didn't quite click. Humans seemed to be odd with their reasons for battle. Finishing the chapter, she gently closed the book and sighed. She figured that was enough human literature for one day.
Returning to the shelves, she placed the book exactly where she had found it before and proceeded to browse for another selection. Perhaps more familiar texts would slow the gears turning in her mind down.

Finn seemed to focus on other things, quietly taking some books out of the shelf he had sorted his into in order to set them where they should be, sorted after genre and alphabetical order. Such little things were a bother to him, which wasn`t a surprise. He seemed like the kind of fellow to take a clear order very seriously. The Octosniper was no way no longer aware of the other`s presence, though. The marksman did take note of the little 'thump' their book made when Jian closed it.
As Jian emerged beside him, Finn felt that maybe he could recommend something, but he chose not to speak as not to get on the other`s nerves.

Strav is exhausted after his mission in Bluefin Depot. He sighed, and wanted to find somewhere to rest. Going back to the Octarian Academy will result in getting annoyed by junior Octarians. He wanted to get to somewhere quiet where he can be alone.
A library is perfect. Starv is not a bookworm, but he know there and comfy couches for Octarians to rest and read books, and perhaps he should start reading something. Strav seldom read so this is a great opportunity for him to do so.
The door creaked open, and here he in, in Barbel Library. He grabbed a random book and slumped on a couch. He noticed some else is already here.
Am I invading their personal space? Should I leave?

As the tall Octosniper considered to make sure the books inside the library were in order, he could hear the door to the room he was in slowly creak open and then close once more. He focused on the shelves he was standing at, albeit paying attention to the other Octarian that made their way inside. Curious. Usually the library wasn't this populated when the Octolings in training were occupied.
"Good day, comrade." Finn greeted the other that had arrived offhandedly.

"Oh, hi there." Strav is not expecting anyone to notice him sitting in a corner. But considering how clumsy Strikers like him are, it makes total sense.
"I'm not goin' to bother you. I'm just sitting here and take a lil' rest. I'll leave later." he opened his book and started some reading.

Finn's gaze only briefly traveled to Strav, a relatively neutral, but nonetheless friendly, smile on his face. "Please, please. You aren't bothering anybody. The library is for everyone." He decided to walk away from the books he was sorting into order earlier to head back to his seat.
