CHARACTER DESCRIPTION

Mornica is about average height for her species, meaning that she's a good few inches taller than most of the Inklings around her. Her skin is pale due to a lack of exposure to sunlight, and her habit of walking around slightly hunched over to avoid attention and her unusual sitting positions while using the computer have left her with a poor posture. Her eyes are pink, and her preferred tentacle color is purple. She prefers conservative clothing that makes it easy to blend in with the crowd—her preferred brand is SquidForce, but her usual headwear is a bobble hat from Splash Mob that matches her tentacle color. She uses this hat and a tight, uncomfortable bun in an effort to hide her telltale Octoling tentacles, but her face markings still give her species away. As a result, she makes an effort to hide her face from those around her whenever possible while trying not to look suspicious. That would only add fuel to the fire.

History

As a baby, Mornica was found by two agents from Inkopolis who were on a mission in enemy territory. Her exact origins are unknown—the agents have speculated that perhaps she is the child of two enemy soldiers or was simply abandoned—but regardless, the agents decided to take her in and raise her as their own. This was not entirely out of sympathy for the helpless child, though: they wanted to see if an Octoling raised by Inkling parents would turn out any different than an Octoling raised in its natural environment.[break][break]On the one hand, through their adoptive daughter, the agents were able to prove that Octolings are not inherently evil and hostile toward Inklings. On the other hand, they also discovered just how deep-seated the prejudices toward other species can be. Despite being raised as an Inkling and adapting to Inkling society just as Inkling children do, Mornica and her adoptive parents were still looked at with suspicion by those around them. Those who did not think that Mornica and her family were Octo Valley spies thought that something inherent to Octolings would emerge when Mornica grew older and cause her to attack Inklings. Mornica, thus, isolated herself from others as a child and developed anxiety and trust issues as she grew older. These issues certainly didn't help her loneliness, for even those open-minded enough to give Mornica a chance were often either put off by her lack of social skills or were excluded from Mornica's life due to her fear and mistrust.[break][break]About the only good thing Mornica has going for her is the fact that her digital music is fairly well-known on the internet among people who like her style of poppy techno. She keeps her identity a secret, though, simply calling herself "That One Music Maker" on forums and in chatrooms.[break][break]Now that she's 18, Mornica has decided to move out of her adoptive parents' home so she no longer has to listen to the constant talk of "Just be yourself" and "True friends will like you no matter who you are." What a load of kelp.
